Door County Birch Path
Paths like this invite us into the familiar and the unknown. We are fairly certain what lies ahead but still anticipate with each step what we may find around the bend. This lane in Door County may be ordinary compared to the majestic Grand Canyon. Yet the light makes it extraordinary and in my opinion comparable to more majestic places. My pathway series seeks to transcend the physical places, to find in each leaf, tree, and stone a visual comparison to how these places make me feel. Essentially, my work contemplates the transcendental and sensual in nature. The light must be beautiful, sparkling, translucent. The excitement from color comes from its analogous variations. There are hundreds of greens in nature and each is represented by short strokes that vibrate and shimmer. They are carefully placed and balanced, hinging on a perfect, underlying structure.
